INTRICACY

March 13, 2017
SOPHIA LOVE AND LEMONS

Growing up in Sydney, Australia I basically live in the ocean. I have spent everyday of my life at the beach, rain, hail or shine. Although my style and personality are quite “beachy”, I also have another side to me, a side that is obsessed with a different type of style. I am very interested in elegant and intricate designs.

To me, this photoshoot captivates my true “passion for style”. I like this For Love and Lemons dress because its different to what I normally wear, its not the type of dress you see everyday and I love that. In fact, I love discovering people, places and style that are out of the ordinary. I think abnormalities are what make something or someone special.

Thinking about differences and standing out, I like to think I am some what different, or even weird, compared to most people my age but that brings me to my conclusion… who is to say what it really means to be different?

ODD ONE OUT

January 27, 2017

All of our lives we are faced with “picture perfect” images in magazines that seem to set the standards of what it is to be “beautiful”. The media tell us to “love ourselves just the way we are” but everything we see around us is a contradiction of that and “loving yourself” is sometimes easier said than done.

We all have insecurities, which most of us try so hard to hide or “fix”. I was born with a birthmark on my upper, right thigh, which for a long time I was highly insecure about. I would go to the beach in a bikini and stand with my hand on the side of my leg trying to cover it as best I could. Now its my favorite part about myself and if anything I’m very proud to flaunt it. I realized that everyone is different, that obviously includes me and that if I spend my life wanting something I cant have I will never be happy.

The saying goes “You always want what you cant have”- I wanted the shoot for this blog post to be mermaid themed. Every girl who loves the ocean pictures mermaids to be mystical and beautiful but fairytales tell the story of how they just want to be like us. They are the perfect example of how being different is beautiful but even they are thought to want something they don’t have.

To me, our differences are what make us mystical, just like mermaids.

Dear Earth

March 17, 2016

dear earth 4Dear Earth.

On behalf of all humans I would like to say sorry in advance.
We didn’t mean to kill you.
We were too involved in killing each other for land, cutting down trees for money.
We were too busy wasting water with long showers, digging you up for gold, diamonds and oil.
We were too self involved to realise how we were hurting something so beautiful.
We didn’t mean to kill turtles with our plastic bags.
“It’s not our fault” they said, that the air became so polluted crops could no longer grow.

They knew this would happen. They were too scared to face the reality of how close it was to the end. It was too late to even do anything when they finally woke up to what was actually happening.

But I always knew.

I can’t say I didn’t warn them.

I did my best to take care of you, but I had no help. I couldn’t do much. I wish they at least tried.

Some of the wiser ones told them as well. Told them “when the last tree Is cut down, the last fish eaten, and the last stream poisoned, you will realise that you cannot eat money.”

They just kept living.

Recently I was lucky enough to be able to go to Palm Beach with my family. We stayed in a house close to the beach that had beautiful views of the ocean and really cute, beachy furniture. Can someone say, dream beach house?!
