White sand beaches, pretty blue water and clear skies, the best way to describe Waikiki.

Waikiki is a town on the south shore of O’ahu, Hawaii.

While I was in Waikiki I learnt about the sunrise shell. The sunrise shell is like a diamond to the people of Hawaii. It’s called the Sunrise Shell because it has the pink, orange and yellow colors of a sunrise. It’s very rare and valuable. The shell is sacred and is suppose to bring a special blessing to the person wearing it. I love the idea that the Hawaiian’s have their own special rituals and beliefs and can especially see why they love the Sunrise Shell so much.

While we were Waikiki we stayed at The Modern Hotel, did lots of shopping and even spent New Years Eve watching fire works under the palm trees. My sister and I even went surfing a few times. I caught a few good waves and it was so much fun. Surfing in Honolulu can be dangerous because of the big waves and dangerous reefs below them. After a while of surfing the waves started to get bigger and I got a little freaked out (ok maybe like really freaked out) and had to go in. I had a good time surfing but I am not sure Ill be taking on the big waves again any time soon. Ill stick to mermaid like activities from now on ; ).

Aloha and Love, Sophia.
